Shelena Chavis

2025-2026 School Leader Fellow

Shelena Chavis currently serves as an Assistant Principal with Guilford County Schools. With a commitment of 18 years to the district, she has been a Multi-Classroom leader, Curriculum Facilitator, and Mission Possible Specialist, supporting teachers in Title I schools by creating access to learning opportunities for historically underserved students and supporting teachers to ensure educational prosperity. Prior to receiving these leadership roles, she began her career as an English teacher understanding that this would be the greatest investment I could ever
make.

Shelena recently served as a P.E.A.C.E Fellow (Protecting Educator-Activists of Color through Engagement) through We Are (Working to Extend Anti-Racist Education) bringing together educators of color to collaborate, address the challenges facing our educational system, and to take action to remove any barriers preventing high-quality education for all students.

Throughout these experiences, she has discovered the importance of representation in education as it shapes how students see themselves, each other, and their future. Proudly representing the Lumbee tribe, that recently became federally recognized after 137 years of effort, she will continue to demonstrate the same persistence in educational leadership, committed to representation, equitable outcomes, and creating pathways for future generations to see that anything is possible. This starts with her daughter Shania, who will be a future Aggie in the fall.
