Dr. Angela C. Monell
2025-2026 District Fellow
Dr. Angela C. Monell is a transformational educational leader with 28 years of
experience driving equity-centered school improvement across K–12 systems. She currently serves as Director of School Improvement, providing elementary, principal, and special school support for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. She previously served as a high school principal and Assistant Principal for 9 years. Her work focuses on strategic planning, sustainable systems change, and restorative practices that improve student
outcomes and organizational effectiveness. In addition, Dr. Monell serves as an adjunct professor at Winston-Salem State University, where she supports graduate-level educators.
Dr. Monell has successfully led school-wide reform initiatives resulting in measurable gains, including an 85% “met” rate on school improvement indicators within one year, an 8% increase in Math I academic growth, and a 30% increase in access to advanced coursework for underrepresented students, earning national recognition from the College Board with AP Honor Roll and AP Access Awards. As a certified National Trainer with the International Institute for Restorative Practices (IIRP), she has reimagined discipline systems to reduce exclusionary practices while increasing student belonging and efficacy. Also close to her academic work is her Governor-appointed role on the NC Crime Commission, where she serves on the Crime-Victim Services committee.
Dr. Monell holds an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership, a master’s degree in Special Education, and a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications.
Dr. Monell has two adult sons and has been married for 26 years.
