Alison M. White

2025-2026 Learning Differences Fellow

Alison M. White is an Instructional Specialist with the Cumberland County Schools Exceptional Children’s Department, where she provides district-level support to educators serving students with diverse learning needs. With extensive experience in special education, Alison is recognized for her commitment to instructional excellence, inclusive practices, and strengthening outcomes for students with disabilities across academic, functional, and transitional domains.

Alison began her educational journey as a teacher assistant working with students with Autism, which shaped her passion for advocacy and specialized instruction. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Fayetteville State University. She later earned a Master of Arts in Special Education from Grand Canyon University while working full time in Cumberland County Schools.

Following graduate school, Alison served as a Special Education teacher at Westover High School, where she played an instrumental role in program development and student empowerment initiatives. Among her notable contributions was assisting in the establishment of the Wolverine “Wake Up” Café, a student-operated enterprise designed to promote vocational readiness, independence, and real-world job skills for students with disabilities. She also served as a Lady Wolverine softball coach for four years and as an Athletic First Responder, supporting student safety and school-wide engagement.

Currently, in her role as Instructional Specialist, Alison collaborates with school leaders and educators to strengthen instructional practices, support compliance, and promote meaningful learning opportunities for students with varying ability levels. Her work emphasizes capacity-building, professional collaboration, and student-centered planning.
